Tehran reports attacking a US naval base in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes across the region in response for a "massive" and continuing offensive targeting the nation by the United States and Israeli forces.

Large columns of dark smoke were observed billowing from an area near the headquarters of the American Fifth Fleet in Manama, Bahrain. The scope of any impact is unclear and the United States has not commented.

Missile Defenses Activated

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and Kuwait - which all house American military installations - stated they have shot down missiles in their territorial skies.

In the Qatari capital, Qatar's defence ministry stated it had successfully engaged a number of projectiles seemingly aimed at the al-Udeid air base, the largest American base in the Middle East.

IRGC Statement

Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) declared it was attacking US bases and assets as part of military campaign "Truthful Promise 4", in retaliation for the strikes on Iran initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday.

That US-Israeli operation - launched at approximately 09:15 Iran time - has so far focused on areas associated with the Iranian leadership, with President Trump encouraging the Iranian people to revolt against the leadership.

Wider Impacts

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces said it had detected an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The defence ministry of the United Arab Emirates announced that the nation has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"Emirati air defenses dealt with the projectiles with high efficiency and successfully intercepted a series of missiles," it added.

The statement noted wreckage landed in a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some material damage and killing a civilian.

The United States Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of the Emirati capital, along with the UAE Air Force.
