Starting XI

Dean Henderson Was rarely tested to make in the first half before forced to intervene by Arbër Hoxha’s bent shot. A sliding intervention against an Albanian attacker highlighted sharp anticipation. 6/10

The defender Advanced up the pitch when in possession, a familiar role in the past. Sometimes lacked urgency when carrying play and the approach discontinued after the break. 6/10

The tall defender A constant threat on corners and free-kicks, typically, but may be another option to his teammate in the backline as opposed to his partner. A loose pass in the second half almost led to an opener for Albania. Six

Nico O’Reilly A further assured display by the rising star after his first cap versus another side. A teammate failed to make the opportunity from a gorgeous flick over the opposing backline. The left-back spot is his to lose at this stage. 7

The newcomer A debut start in an England shirt. Somewhat sloppy on the ball but his dangerous deliveries posed a danger. An effective pace-controller available to the manager to call upon versus sides that sit back. Cautioned for a poorly timed foul. 6/10

Declan Rice Deliveries from corners and set-plays created chances. Was given freedom to roam down the left flank only to be in an offside position upon receiving in shooting positions. Awarded a well-earned rest on the hour mark. 6

The star midfielder Played in a forward role on the right and also contributed with defensive duties. Showed moments of class and scuffed an effort over. Replaced in the closing stages for Rogers, a fellow player, after being booked. 7

The winger Was presented with the team's top opening in the opening period, his shot smartly stopped from Thomas Strakosha. As a teammate holding position, it fell to him to offer an outlet on the right but his crosses from wide areas varied in quality. Replaced with 15 to go. 6/10

The captain The difference-maker with his two more strikes at international level. His first a typical opportunist's goal while the second an excellent headed goal following a clever run from his marker. At 32, he’s only getting better and the side stand a real opportunity next summer with him leading the line. 8

The attacker Had difficulty to make an impact out wide. Had a presentable chance when set up from a teammate however Strakosha made the save. His replacement made much more of an impact in his place. 5
